Bandits killed an anti-riot policeman and kidnapped 23 persons during an attack on Ungwan Sauri and Adnayita in Juji area, all in Chikun Local Government area of Kaduna State.

They also killed five members of vigilante in an ambush attack in Udawa along Kaduna-Birnin Gwari highway while a member of the group survived the attack with bullet wound.

At Ungwan Sauri and Adnayita in Juji, it was learnt that the bandits invaded the community in the early hours of Wednesday, shooting sporadically and killed the police officer.

The bandits in large numbers shot sporadically and in the process, a mobile police officer was gunned down,” he added.

On the Udawa community, attack which happened on Tuesday at about 5:00pm, the bandits, according to a community leader, Liman Hussaini Udawa, were said to have ambushed the eight vigilantes and killed five of them while three others escaped.

He said the vigilance group was attacked along the Kaduna – Birnin Gwari highway while coming back from Kaduna.

According to him, one of the vigilante members was badly injured and currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

They also killed five members of vigilante in an ambush attack in Udawa along Kaduna-Birnin Gwari highway while a member of the group survived the attack with bullet wound.

At Ungwan Sauri and Adnayita in Juji, it was learnt that the bandits invaded the community in the early hours of Wednesday, shooting sporadically and killed the police officer.
Kaduna Police spokesman, ASP Mohammed Jalige, who confirmed the attack to The Nation, added that operatives of the command had since been deployed to the communities.

The police spokesman could not however give details on how many residents of the community were taken away by the bandits.

But a source, a vigilante member told The Nation in confidence that no fewer than 23 members of the community were abducted by the hoodlums.

“The sporadic gunshots started by 12:50 in the early hours of Tuesday lasted till 200 am.

“Initially, we thought the sounds of the gunshots were coming from neighbouring Buwaya community but before we know, the bandits were on us.

“Ungwan Sauri and Adnayita communities in Juji area. They are close to each other. In all, 23 persons kidnapped.
The bandits in large numbers shot sporadically and in the process, a mobile police officer was gunned down,” he added.

On the Udawa community, attack which happened on Tuesday at about 5:00pm, the bandits, according to a community leader, Liman Hussaini Udawa, were said to have ambushed the eight vigilantes and killed five of them while three others escaped.

He said the vigilance group was attacked along the Kaduna – Birnin Gwari highway while coming back from Kaduna.

According to him, one of the vigilante members was badly injured and currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

The other two members, he added, also sustained injuries.

He gave the names of the five members killed by the bandits as Musa Sulaiman, Ibrahim Lawal, Bashar Ibrahim, Saidu Sarki and Abdulsalam Haruna while Idris Abdullahi sustained gunshot wounds.
