In preparation for the forthcoming gubernatorial elections set for November 11, 2023, in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States, the Acting Inspector General of Police, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has greenlit an intensive two-day training program for police personnel assigned to election security duty. The purpose of this training initiative is to enhance their abilities in maintaining peace, order, and security during the electoral process.
The training program is scheduled as follows:
– Bayelsa State: October 25th to 26th, 2023
– Kogi State: October 27th to 28th, 2023
– Imo State: October 25th to 26th, 2023
The primary goal of this training exercise is to equip law enforcement officers with the necessary knowledge and skills to ensure a peaceful and secure electoral atmosphere. The IGP has emphasized the critical importance of upholding the highest standards of professionalism and impartiality while strictly adhering to electoral laws and guidelines.
The Nigeria Police Force will work closely with other relevant security agencies, electoral stakeholders, and the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC Nigeria to guarantee the safety of voters, electoral officials, candidates, and the general public during the off-season elections.
The IGP has also called on political parties and candidates to conduct their campaigns and activities peacefully, respecting the principles of democracy and the rule of law. He reassures the public that the Police are unwavering in their commitment to providing a secure environment for the citizens of Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States to exercise their democratic rights and ensure the success of the gubernatorial elections.
The Inspector General of Police urges all residents and stakeholders to cooperate fully with the Police and other law enforcement agencies deployed for election duty to achieve a peaceful and transparent electoral process.
